OPAL FRAME
| The gem of the Orbea Stable. It has been designed to meet Orbea’s high level of quality by aiming for strength, performance and design. It is a pure competition machine, manufactured using M30J Toray carbon fibre. The properties of the M30J fibre allow for a stiffer ride and a frame and fork with superior strength. The most powerful competitor will appreciate the way it can cut through tight corners and descend with stability and exceptional handling. Orbea has developed a Finite Element Analysis program to find the areas which require reinforcement. The layers of unidirectional pre-impregnated carbon fibre are bulked up at the critical points of stress such as the bottom bracket and head tube, in some instances there can be up to and beyond 60 layers of Carbon Fibre at any critical point to assure stiffness and rigidity. Our double monocoque design is bonded in a special jig using mono-component epoxy heated to 120C. The frame is dialled into it truest form. This translates into better acceleration and power transfer. The final paint work is a collaborative process between designers and engineers. |
